Separation Anxiety Relief for Dogs Who Can't Be Home Alone
Separation anxiety is a very distressing issue for the dogs who experience it and for their people. Not all dogs who display destructive behavior, have house training accidents, or vocalize when home alone, have separation anxiety. Your dog could be struggling when home alone due to sound sensitivity, boredom, experiencing problems with house training - or they may need a new enrichment or exercise routine. I can assess your dog's behavior.
If your dog experiences anxiety when home alone- and you are staying at home to prevent your dog from suffering from panic during absences (or if you are concerned about the barking or destructive behavior upsetting your landlord) I can help you. So many dogs experience separation anxiety:luckily there are proven protocols to reduce distress in these dogs. And their people!
Through systematic gradual desensitization exercises we can work together to begin to help your dog feel relaxed during your absence. I will create a customized training plan for you to follow and help you implement it. I offer several packages for people and dogs struggling with separation anxiety and am available 5 times a week to coach and counsel you through the process.

Separation Anxiety Success Stories
" I had the great fortune of working with Susan for several months last year, and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for additional support with their dog's behavioral issues. For myself, I was looking for a dog trainer who could support us in managing and hopefully alleviating my dog's separation anxiety... I was unsure about how to move forward because it felt like trying to do training on my own wasn't working, and trying to stay motivated felt next to impossible with the demands of everyday life. Thanks to Susan, we've been able to make a lot of steady progress over the months, and we are feeling hopeful about the months ahead!
We worked with Susan remotely, all the way from California, but I didn't feel the distance was an issue at all. Susan was attentive, patient, kind, and clear, and despite the time difference, was flexible and accommodating when needed. Her guidance was comprehensive and easy to understand, even though we were navigating some of the more confusing dynamics of separation anxiety. She was calm and encouraging when we were feeling down about setbacks, and made sure to normalize the fact that ups and downs are just part of not just life, but dog training as well. At the end of the day, dog training is all about helping people increase their understanding of their pets, and giving them the tools that they need to move forward on their own without needing to work with a professional trainer forever. (Though, once you start working with Susan, you'll probably be really sad when your package ends... and may end up buying more sessions!)
I highly recommend working with Susan, especially if you're working on a tougher, more long-term behavioral issue that requires patience, encouragement, and a steady hand to keep you on track. Thank you Susan!"

"Susan has been training and boarding my dog Birdie since she was four months old (she is now 2 and a half). Being a covid pup, Birdie had an extreme case of separation anxiety. With Susan’s help I can leave Birdie for up to 4 hours without having to stress. My pup absolutely adores her and I attribute BIrdie’s good manners and calmness to Susan’s influence. I don’t know what I’d do without Susan in my life! "

"When Sammo was dealing with separation anxiety, Susan came up with a desensitization program that was tailored to his particular needs, and was infinitely patient and responsive through my little velcro dog's ups and downs when it came to being home alone. Thanks to her program, he's finally gotten more comfortable being left by himself. Susan is the best!"
